Frequently Asked Questions
What speaker impedance does LM4889 support?
The LM4889 supports 4Ω and 8Ω speakers in bridge-tied load (BTL) configuration. At 5V supply with 8Ω speaker, it delivers 1W. With 4Ω speaker, output power increases to approximately 1.5W. Minimum recommended speaker impedance is 4Ω.
How does the click/pop suppression work?
The LM4889 includes an internal charge pump circuit that slowly biases the output to the mid-supply voltage during power-up and shutdown. This gradual transition eliminates the audible click or pop that occurs with abrupt DC offset changes.
What is the shutdown current of LM4889?
In shutdown mode (SD pin low), the LM4889 draws less than 0.1µA, effectively zero battery drain. This makes it ideal for always-present audio paths in battery devices where the amplifier is only active during playback.
What gain is the LM4889 configured for?
The LM4889 gain is set by external resistors: AV = 2 × (Rf/Ri). Default recommended configuration provides 6dB gain (AV=2). Gain can be adjusted from 0dB to 20dB by changing the feedback/input resistor ratio.
