LM76 has two programmable threshold registers: THIGH (warning) and TCRIT (critical). When temperature exceeds THIGH, the INT pin asserts. When temperature exceeds TCRIT, the CT pin asserts. Both have configurable hysteresis for stable switching.
What I2C address does LM76 use?
The LM76CHM-5 has I2C address 0x4D (1001101). Other variants have different addresses (LM76CHM-3 = 0x4B, LM76CHM-4 = 0x4C). This allows up to four LM76 sensors on a single I2C bus for multi-zone thermal monitoring.
Is LM76 compatible with SMBus?
Yes, LM76 is fully SMBus 2.0 compatible in addition to I2C. It supports standard SMBus commands including PEC (Packet Error Checking) for reliable communication in electrically noisy environments. Bus frequency up to 400kHz is supported.
